About Talking Therapy

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

– Maya Angelou

What Is Counselling?

Whilst some of us have a gym membership, do park runs or HIT classes to keep strong and healthy physically we can totally negate our mental health. Counselling can offer a mental health re-set to off load regularly and as a chance to recalibrate.

Counselling can help you navigate ‘this thing called life’. It can be surprising what you discover about yourself when you share your thoughts out loud. Rather than those thoughts remaining in your head, stuck together in overwhelm – by talking, you can unravel the fog, make connections and find a clearer way through what once consumed you. Talking can restore balance, offer considerable relief, give you a toolbox of coping strategies and allow you to show yourself and others, compassion. Counselling gives you the time, focus and space to resolve whatever has been consuming you or weighing you down. In short, talking therapy can free your mind.

Why Counselling?

It could be that certain ways of coping just don’t work for you anymore. It could be that an unexpected, traumatic event has happened that you replay and cannot process. You might need support with a significant life event looming near or support with an impactful life event that has happened. You might have a low mood for a significant period of time. Perhaps you need a mind M.O.T, a re-boot, some time and space to rest your mind. You might not know what is wrong, just feel like something has been ‘missing’……there are many reasons why we seek out counselling but it cannot be overstated that all issues and all emotions felt are as unique as you are.

What are your Counselling goals?

Goals can be specific to you – you might need to heal from a bereavement, to bond with your child - your goal might be to develop practical strategies when you feel anxious or your objective could be not to repeat old dysfunctional behaviour in your current relationships.

Goals can be general - you can use counselling to sustain and nurture your mental wellbeing, to be a thread of continuity as life throws inevitable curveballs at you or to support and boost your emotional resilience.

The aims of counselling can be general or specific - to maintain constant good head space or to support you at times when life spawns particular difficulties.
