“Therapy should not be theory driven but relationship driven.”
– Yalom
At the core of therapy is the goal of building a sound and authentic relationship between counsellor and client. This relationship is born out of the counsellor holding core conditions – a non judgemental, safe and respectful space and the client learning to trust, sometimes take risks and make connections. The environment and time (where permitting) ensure that personal growth, goals and resolution or peace are achieved. I aim to put you at ease, listen to and value what you say. I will sometimes laugh with you; I will sometimes challenge you with respect and I will support you through anything that matters to you. You are the expert…….. at all times.
I qualified in 2003 as an Integrative Counsellor and worked for a charity with low-income families supporting a variety of wide-reaching issues. Working integratively, means that I employ different styles of counselling where appropriate in my work with you (some people respond to goal setting and activities like keeping a journal/goal setting whereas others want to stay in the ‘here and now’ whilst others might want to particularly focus on their childhoods).
I then worked as a Learning Support, Teacher and an Education manager which enabled me to work across multi agencies that dealt with teenagers with disabilities accessing education and securing funding to meet their holistic needs. After returning to Private Practice I have had the privilege to work with a range of unbelievable clients – their bravery, commitment and ability to step out of their comfort zone has had me in awe. I live in Kent with my partner, 4 young children and 3 dogs.
I have a particular interest in post-natal depression, menopausal transition, depression, anxiety and low self-esteem issues but am wholeheartedly here and ready to embrace whatever your particular issue(s) might be. If your issues are outside of my area of competence, then I will endeavour to refer you on to those that can help. I always work with integrity and heart.
“Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just to show up.”
– Brené Brown
